FIRST½ We're currently accepting entries for the 2011 Gulf Coast Prizes. This year we have raised the prize money to $1,500 for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry winners, plus $250 for two runners-up in each genre. That's a total of $6,000 in prizes. The winners will be published in Gulf Coast 24.1, to be released in fall 2011. Just for entering, you'll get a one-year subscription to Gulf Coast, and all entries will be considered for publication. You can submit to our contests online now. View our contest guidelines and send us your work! The 2011 Poetry Prize will be judged by Ilya Kaminsky, the Creative Nonfiction/Lyric Essay Prize will be judged by John D'Agata, and the Fiction Prize will be judged by Frederick Reiken. See our contest page to learn more about this year's judges. When submitting online, be sure to select one of the genres labeled "CONTEST" when uploading your work. You do not need a PayPal account to enter online; you can use your credit or debit card. If there's any issue with your payment, we'll contact you. The contest deadline is March 15, 2011. ALSO½ In preparation for a special "International Issue," Gulf Coast is seeking poetry, fiction, and nonfiction from writers based in and/or writing about cultures outside the U.S. We are interested in seeing both work originally in English and work in translation. Translations should be accompanied by a copy of the original text, along with short bios for both the author and translator in your cover letter. Please secure all translation permissions prior to submitting the work. Submit your work online and include the words "International Issue" somewhere in the title field or cover letter. Best of luck with your reading and writing in 2011! We look forward to reading your work.
